Farewell to an old Friend, James MacArthur

One of Monarchs House’s most frequent and loved guests was James MacArthur. Sorrowfully, Jim passed away yesterday, October 28, 2010.  Jim was best known by the public as Danny “Danno” Williams of the hit television show, Hawaii Five-O.  The catchphrase ‘book him, Danno” said by Steve McGarrett, played by Jack Lord, became part of popular culture during the 70s.

Want to Win? We Need Your Help, Please.

As October draws to a close, we have 66 entrants to the “win the keys to Monarchs House for a week” contest. That’s a great start but the contest isn’t on unless we have 500 entrants by December 31,2010.

Why I Love St Andrews

Owners David Brilliant and the author, Mike DiCarlo seated l to r on Swilcan Bridge

This post appeared in November 2009 on the blog www.ayewonder.com and was written by one of the owners of Monarchs House. Given the spirit of our giveaway, we thought you might enjoy its reprint here:

On Wednesday morning when I arrived in Scotland’s Edinburgh Airport slightly knackered from my overnight 2-legged journey, I privately sighed. I was now back in a country that I not so privately love.  I don’t want you to get the wrong impression, I love America too. But if America owns my heart, for some reason, and one I can’t truly articulate, Scotland owns my soul.
