Monarchs House

Congrats Steve Errington

Steve Errington of Burhill Golf Club

Imagine standing on the 4th tee of one of your favorite courses and you still hadn’t made par yet. Worse yet, you started double bogie, double bogie. You wouldn’t be happy, we’d think. Unless you did what Steve Errington did on Saturday, July 2 while playing Kingsbarns.

Everyone loves lists and Monarchs House is no exception. Lists bring order, weighting, and conversation. And just because it is our list, it doesn’t have to be yours as well.

Today, we decided to put together our list of 10 things you should know about playing links golf for the first time.  It is by no means definitive but something for you to consider if you are playing true links golf in the UK and Ireland.

Random Thoughts from the Home of Golf

The linksland of Castle Stuart

The golf world will miss the greatness and genius that was Seve Ballesteros.  He won the Open Championship three times, twice at Royal Lytham & St Annes and once on the Old Course in 1984. Our favorite quote of Seve’s is indicative of his warmth, humour and ability to not take things too seriously. When asked about four putting the 16th green at the 1990 Masters, Seve memorably replied, “I miss, I miss, I miss, I make.”  RIP Severiano Ballesteros.

The Brumfield Family

Recently, we welcomed our first residents of 2011 at Monarchs House. We were pleased to host to the Brumfield family of Katy, Texas. The Brumfields visited during the first week of March, enjoyed wonderful weather, golfed and took in all that St Andrews has on offer.

Haste ye back!

Monarchs for a Week – Contest Update

Thank you to all who entered the “stay at Monarchs House for a week” contest.  We are grateful for your shared memories and dreams of St Andrews. We agree that it really is a special place in so many ways. This  past weekend, Prince William and his bride to be, Kate Middleton, returned to St Andrews where they first met as students and declared the town, “still has that uncanny knack of feeling like home.” By your submissions, we can tell that many of you feel the same way.

Links Trust Announces Changes

A week ago, the Links Trust, administrator of seven courses in St Andrews including the Old Course, announced that they were making a change to the daily ballot for play on the Old Course. It is a significant change.  This from their press release:
