The Smiling Faces of Monarchs House
All Smiles
(expand screen)
Over the past 11 years, Monarchs House has hosted over 250 groups of visitors to St Andrews and Scotland. These groups had little in common. They came from all over the planet for golf, family visits, university graduations, the Open Championship and holiday celebrations. We noticed one thread of commonality amongst all of the groups: their smiles. We thought we would share some with you.
General Manager Kevin Low
Chef Kevin Low helped open the doors of Monarchs House in 2001. Now, in addition to preparing breakfast and wonderful dinner meals, Kevin looks after all of our guests’ needs as General Manager. One bit of consistent praise that we hear from guest to guest is that we are lucky to have Kevin and that he is a first-rate ambassador of not only Monarchs House but Scotland as well. We couldn’t agree more.
Our List of Ten
Everyone loves lists and Monarchs House is no exception. Lists bring order, weighting, and conversation. And just because it is our list, it doesn’t have to be yours as well.
Today, we decided to put together our list of 10 things you should know about playing links golf for the first time. It is by no means definitive but something for you to consider if you are playing true links golf in the UK and Ireland.
Fare Thee Well, Old Friend
We’re not big on baseball here in Scotland. We wouldn’t know a home run from an error. But it doesn’t take a baseball supporter to know this: Harmon C. Killbebrew was as brilliant a man as one would ever meet. Today, he passed away after announcing recently that he would no longer fight the incurable esophageal cancer that he was diagnosed with in December.
Harmon loved golf, St Andrews and Monarchs House. He visited often and we will greatly miss our old friend. We wish his family strength and solace at this most difficult time
Flow gently, sweet Afton! amang thy green braes,
Flow gently, I’ll sing thee a song in thy praise.
~Robert Burns
First at Monarchs House 2011
Recently, we welcomed our first residents of 2011 at Monarchs House. We were pleased to host to the Brumfield family of Katy, Texas. The Brumfields visited during the first week of March, enjoyed wonderful weather, golfed and took in all that St Andrews has on offer.
Haste ye back!
